Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

Situated on the Wild Atlantic Way on Irelands west coast the Cliffs of Moher boast some of the most breathtaking scenery in Ireland.

Rising slowly from Doolin they ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) stretching south for nearly five miles (8km) to Hags head. They have become one of Irelads premier tourist attraction and a must see for many people visiting Ireland.

For most people the only way they experience the Cliffs of Moher is by visiting the Co Council run Cliffs of Moher Vistor Experience. Built in 2007 at a cost of 30 million euro and occupying just one small section of the Cliffs it now attracts over 1.5 million vistors a year. Unfortunately the site and the local road network are struggling to cope with these volumes resulting in long queues and traffic delays at the Cliffs of Moher Vistor Experience during the summer months.

The best way to experienec the Cliffs is to avoid the Cliffs of Moher Vistor Experience and experience the Cliffs of Moher by exploring the Cliffs of Moher Hiking Trails. Avoid the crowds, and the tour coaches.

Doolin is a colourful and welcoming village ready to host you on your stay, Doolin has something for everyone. Algar de Benagil, Portugal

The southern coast of Portugal known as Algarve is the country’s main resort area. This is a popular beach resort with the length of 150 kilometers. In 2013 and 2014 it was even recognized as the best golf resort in the world. Portugal attracts by the fact that neither houses nor hotels are situated not close to the water, and therefore you can walk freely along the coast. Many seekers of pleasant vacation come to these places.

Incredibly beautiful beach Benagil is located near the Algarve resort, between the cities of Portimao and Armacao de Pera. It is the southernmost young Portuguese resort. In just a few minutes you can get from the village to the ecologically clean beach. Romantics from around the world gather here to admire the amazing beauty. The resort has its feature – two beaches.

One of them is located on the sandy beach, with warm clear water and framed by ancient rocks, the other one is hidden inside the fabulous cave. And this cave is certainly worth it to come here, because this is a highlight of the Algarve. This picturesque cave near the beach is a world-class attraction. It is called Benagil cave, Algar de Benagil or Algar Seco. You can get to it easily, but only from the sea – you should swim 100 meters from the beach Benagil or use a boat. The vaults of the cave with tens of meters in height, illuminated by the sun, delight and attract the most sophisticated travelers by its pristine beauty.

Especially in the scorching heat the cave gives a pleasant shade, coolness and enjoyment. The bottom of the cave is lined with fine sand. You’ll get even more pleasure if you walk in the company of dolphins along this miracle which was created over millions of years by the best creator of everything on the Earth – the nature itself. In the cave there is a large arched entrance, which is covered by the sea. Several local companies include travel next to the cave in the sightseeing cruises, which take place from April to September.

The cave was formed under the influence of rainwater, seawater and strong ocean wind. By the way it is pretty cool here, so it is advisable to bring warm clothing. The waves do not allow to approach the shore inside the cave. And you will have to swim in any case. Therefore, make sure to take a waterproof bag to put the clothes, as well as a camera and a tripod if you want to make a couple of shots. And you will want to take pictures, because it is great here!

The Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. Located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast, the lakes are a definite must-see in Croatia. (As confirmed by the many emails we’ve received!)

The beauty of the National Park lies in its sixteen lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species.  The National Park covers a total area of 300 square kilometres, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometres.

he Park is open daily all year round, with longer opening hours during summer (usually 7am to 8pm). There’s an entrance fee which acts as a contribution to the Park’s upkeep and protection: for adults it’s 55 Kuna (£6.50/€7.50/$9) January to March and in November and December; 150 Kuna (£18/€20/$23) during April to June and in September and October; and 250 Kuna (£30/€34/$39) in July and August.

If you visit in July and August after 4pm, tickets are discounted – tickets after this time cost 150 Kuna.

Children aged 7 to 18 have cheaper tickets, whilst children under the age of seven go free. Students also get discounted entry, and groups of 15 or more (whether adults, students or children) can also get discounts.

2-day tickets for the Park can also be purchased, which provide you with some cost savings.

4-hour guided tours in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian or Croatian can also be pre-booked for a minimum of 15 people at an additional cost.

There are two entrances to the Park – excitingly titled Entrance 1 for the lower lakes and Entrance 2 for the higher lakes. Entrance 2 (and therefore some of the park) is normally closed in winter (November to April).
